Botulism Toxin (Botox) is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium A. Botox injections involves a series of small injections in order to weaken the chosen muscles for example between the brows or around the eyes. Weakening of the injected muscles begins to be apparent after 2-3 days with the peak effect being reached after 10-14 days. Results can last 3-6 months. The procedure can be repeated after 3 months; however, injections given less than 3 months apart may reduce the efficiency of the injections.
Every procedure involves a certain amount of risk. Although the majority of patients do not experience these complications, you should understand the risks and discuss any issues with your practitioner. Potential consequences of Botox injections:
If any of the following apply please discuss with the practitioner
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding
Neuromuscular disorder (for example, MG/MND)
Anticoagulant use (for example, aspirin/warfarin)
Concurrent use of Aminoglycoside antibiotics
We administer Botox to 3 key facial areas; crows feet, frown lines (glabellar) and forehead lines.
The appearance of crows feet at the corners of the eyes are often associated with ageing. Once these lines appear, they are always present whether or not you may be smiling. The use of Botox to reduce the appearance of these lines has been extremely effective.
Glabellar lines, otherwise known as the 11 lines, appear between the eyebrows. Botox is very effective at relaxing and softening the presence of these lines.
Forehead lines, also known as surprise lines, appear on your forehead when your eyebrows are raised. These lines appear stronger with age and Botox is a great way to soften and reduce the appearance of these lines.
